Troops kill four terrorists in Borno

Troops of the 202 Battalion under Operation Hadin Kai have neutralised four suspected terrorists during a fighting patrol in Borno State, while one soldier sustained injuries in the encounter.

A situation report from the Joint Task Force headquarters said the operation took place on Thursday morning during a long-duration patrol to Sabsawa village aimed at restricting insurgents’ movement within the area.

According to the military, the patrol team came under sporadic gunfire from insurgents at about 9:30 a.m., prompting troops to respond with heavy firepower. The exchange forced the attackers to retreat in different directions.

During a follow-up search of the area, troops discovered the bodies of four neutralised fighters. One soldier was wounded during the firefight.

The injured personnel was evacuated to the medical facility of the 21 Special Armoured Brigade where he is receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.

Military authorities said exploitation of the area is ongoing to track fleeing insurgents and recover weapons or other equipment left behind.

They added that although the overall security situation across the theatre remains calm, it is still unpredictable, noting that troops’ morale and operational effectiveness remain high.
