Troops net suspected arms dealer in Taraba

Troops of the Nigerian Army under the 6 Brigade/Sector 3 of Operation Whirl Stroke have arrested a suspected gun runner and recovered weapons, ammunition and ₦2.4 million during an operation in Taraba State.

The brigade’s spokesperson, Lieutenant Umar Muhammad, said the suspect was intercepted during a stop-and-search exercise at Sarkin Kudu in Ibi Local Government Area following credible intelligence.

Troops flagged down an Audi vehicle with Abuja registration and arrested a 48-year-old man identified as Monday Reuben from Numan Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

Muhammad said a search of the vehicle led to the recovery of two AK-47 rifles, hundreds of empty magazines, various rounds of ammunition, ₦2,440,000 in cash, identification and ATM cards, mobile phones, perfumes, a rechargeable light and assorted local charms believed to be linked to criminal activity.

He added that the suspect and the recovered items are in military custody and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities for further investigation and prosecution.

Commander of the brigade, Chukwuemeka Micheal Akaliro, commended the troops for their vigilance and professionalism, urging them to sustain operations aimed at tackling criminal threats across the state.

He also noted that personnel involved in the operation would be recognised and rewarded in line with the brigade’s policy.
