Tuchel, Conte sent off as Tottenham draw Chelsea in feisty London derby

Chelsea manager, Thomas Tuchel, and Tottenham boss, Antonio Conte, were both sent off after a post-match handshake spat in a pulsating 2-2 draw at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

Tuchel and Conte were both sent off as tempers flared after Harry Kane’s last-gasp equaliser earned Tottenham a point in the encounter.

The managers had already been booked for a face-to-face altercation in the aftermath of 68th-minute Spurs’ first equaliser, scored by Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, but  came to blows after Kane had risen unmarked to head below-par Spurs level for the second time in the 96th-minute.

They had to be separated before being shown red cards as a fiery derby on a scorching hot day in London came to the most dramatic of ends.

Tottenham are undefeated in their last eight games in the Premier League, their last longer unbeaten streak was from November 2021 to January 2022, a run of nine games.

Speaking after the match, Kane said: “It was a really important game for us to show where we are as a team. It’s a marathon, not a sprint but it was important after losing to them five or six times to them. Away from home at Stamford Bridge hasn’t been the best place for us but it’s good to come away with a point.

“We knew it was going to be a tough battle. First half we weren’t good enough. Disappointing the way we conceded second goal, but we carried on fighting, we carried on playing.

“We had to adapt second half, we had to change formation. Chelsea were getting into spaces.

“I kind of flicked it, but I couldn’t see where it went. Then the net was rustling. Especially after the chance I had earlier in the second half, it was nice to see that one go in,” the striker stated.
