Two arrested over fatal stabbing in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has arrested two suspects over the alleged killing of a resident of Gaida Quarters in Kumbotso Local Government Area of the state.

The victim, identified as Ibrahim Khalil Danshagamu, was reportedly attacked by suspected hoodlums who allegedly forced their way into his residence on Monday night.

According to the police, the command received a distress call from the commander of the Gaida Vigilante Group at about 11:30pm, alerting authorities to the attack.

Operatives from the Kumbotso Police Division responded to the scene and rushed Danshagamu to Murtala Muhammad Specialists Hospital, Kano, where a doctor confirmed him dead on arrival.

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, directed the Kumbotso Divisional Police Officer and tactical units of the command to track down those responsible.

The command said an intelligence-driven operation conducted in collaboration with community stakeholders led to the arrest of two suspects allegedly connected to the attack.

The suspects are being interrogated as detectives work to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing, including the motive and whether more people were involved.

The police also said forensic procedures were ongoing as part of efforts to establish the facts of the case.

Bakori expressed concern over the incident and condoled with the family of the deceased, assuring residents that the command would pursue the case to its logical conclusion.

“The Kano State Police Command will not relent in its mandate to protect lives and property. We assure the good people of Kano that justice will be pursued to its logical conclusion,” he said.

The command commended the Gaida Vigilante Group for promptly reporting the incident, saying the response demonstrated the importance of cooperation between security agencies and communities.

It urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to the police through the nearest station or the command’s emergency lines.

The police said additional patrols and intelligence-gathering operations had been deployed across Gaida and neighbouring areas to maintain security and prevent further incidents.

The suspects are expected to be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.
