U.S. police arrest Nigerian-American couple Wendy, Edward Osefo for insurance fraud

Reality TV personality Wendy Osefo and her husband Edward “Eddie” Osefo have been arrested by Maryland authorities over an alleged scheme to defraud their insurance company with a false burglary claim.

The couple—best known from The Real Housewives of Potomac—faces multiple counts of insurance fraud and false statements. According to the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office, Wendy faces 16 charges, including seven felonies, while Eddie is charged with 18 counts, nine of them felonies.

Investigators say the Osefos reported that during an April 2024 vacation in Jamaica, their Maryland home was burglarized, with thieves allegedly stealing luxury items worth over $200,000, including jewelry, designer clothes, and shoes.

However, detectives later discovered that more than $20,000 worth of the supposedly stolen goods had already been returned to retail stores for refunds before the couple filed their insurance claim. Among the discrepancies, a Dior shirt listed as stolen was traced to a prior return, while Wendy was later photographed wearing one of the “stolen” rings on social media.

Authorities also found no evidence of a break-in. Security footage from the couple’s ADT system showed no indoor movement during the alleged burglary window, and there were no signs of forced entry.

Court documents further revealed duplicate claims for the same items filed with different insurance companies, as well as inconsistencies in the couple’s statements.

Sheriff James T. DeWees said investigators concluded that “the Osefos fabricated the burglary and filed a false report in an attempt to defraud their insurance company.”

The couple was released on $50,000 bond each and is expected to appear in court later this year. Their attorneys have requested privacy and said the couple intends to contest the charges.

Legal experts say the evidence of pre-returned items fits a familiar insurance fraud pattern, where suspects exaggerate or invent thefts to claim full reimbursements.
