The United States Government has assured Nigerian President-elect, Bola Tinubu, of its commitment to further strengthening the U.S.-Nigeria relationship with his administration.
The United States Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, made this known via a statement issued by the U.S. State Department spokesperson, Matthew Miller, on Wednesday, May 17.
Blinken, who disclosed that he called Tinubu on Tuesday to discuss issues of interest, noted that the U.S.-Nigeria partnership was built on shared interests and strong people-to-people ties.

He stated that those links should continue to strengthen under Tinubu’s tenure.
He noted that he also discussed the importance of inclusive leadership, which he said represents all Nigerians, continued comprehensive security cooperation, and reforms to support economic growth with the President-elect.
Tinubu will be sworn in as Nigeria’s President on May 29, 2023.
