UNIZIK expels student for slapping lecturer

The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK) in Awka, Anambra State, has expelled a female student, Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka Precious, for allegedly assaulting a lecturer from the Department of Theatre and Film Studies.

UNIZIK announced the student’s expulsion via a letter dated February 13, 2025, and signed by the university’s Acting Registrar, Victor Modebelu.

Modebelu stated that the decision followed the recommendation of the Student Disciplinary Committee, which found the student’s actions to be a gross violation of the institution’s disciplinary regulations, specifically Regulation 4 (SDR).

“The Ag. Vice-Chancellor, consequently, on behalf of the University Senate, approved the Committee’s recommendation that you be expelled and you are hereby expelled from Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka,” he added.

The UNIZIK Registrar noted that the student’s expulsion was with immediate effect, saying Precious should vacate the premises and return any university property in her possession.

The incident, which went viral on social media, involved Precious attacking a lecturer, Dr Chukwudi Okoye, after he interrupted her while recording a TikTok video on campus.

The confrontation led to public outrage and calls for disciplinary action.
