US gospel music legend Ron Kenoly dies at 81

Renowned American gospel singer, worship leader, and songwriter Ron Kenoly has died at the age of 81.

Kenoly reportedly passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, leaving behind a lasting legacy in Christian worship music that touched audiences around the world.

Born on December 6, 1944, in Coffeyville, Kansas, Kenoly rose to prominence in the 1980s and 1990s as a dynamic worship leader known for his energetic live recordings and praise concerts. His ministry and music inspired millions across the United States and beyond, particularly in Africa, where his songs became staples in churches and worship gatherings.

He was widely celebrated for popular worship tracks such as Lift Him Up and Jesus Is Alive, which helped shape contemporary gospel and praise music for decades.

Kenoly began his musical journey after serving in the United States Air Force. His major breakthrough came in 1992 when Lift Him Up became one of the fastest-selling worship albums at the time. Another project, Welcome Home, produced by Tom Brooks, also received critical acclaim and topped Billboard’s contemporary worship charts.

His passing has been mourned by fans, family members, and the global gospel music community, who remember him for his powerful voice, vibrant stage presence, and enduring impact on Christian worship.
