US warns citizens in Nigeria as Iran conflict escalates

The United States government has issued a security advisory to its citizens in Nigeria following rising tensions and ongoing military confrontations between Washington and Tehran.

In a statement released on Monday, the United States Department of State urged Americans abroad to remain vigilant after the launch of U.S. combat operations in Iran.

“Following the launch of U.S. combat operations in Iran, Americans worldwide and especially in the Middle East should follow the guidance in the latest security alerts issued by the nearest U.S. embassy or consulate,” the advisory stated.

The alert warned of possible travel disruptions, including periodic airspace closures, as the crisis unfolds. Citizens were advised to exercise increased caution and stay informed through official channels.

The State Department encouraged Americans to enrol in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) to receive timely updates and to follow official security notifications for further guidance.

The advisory comes amid reports from Iranian state and local media confirming the death of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, following airstrikes allegedly carried out by the United States and Israel. Several senior Iranian officials were also reported killed in the attacks.

In response, Iran has reportedly launched multiple missiles targeting U.S. military bases in Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, vowing retaliation for the deaths of its top leaders.

Speaking during a live broadcast on Saturday as the attacks were ongoing, U.S. President Donald Trump said his administration was determined to eliminate key figures within the Iranian regime.

He also called on Iranian citizens to take control of their government once military operations are concluded.
