United States President Donald Trump has warned that Washington could carry out fresh military strikes against Iran if Tehran fails to curb the activities of Hezbollah in Lebanon.
In a post on Truth Social on Sunday, Trump said Iran must immediately rein in what he described as its “highly paid proxies” in Lebanon or face renewed military action.
“Iran must immediately stop their highly paid PROXIES in Lebanon from causing trouble. If they don’t, we’ll hit Iran very hard again, just like we did last week, only harder!!!” he wrote.
The warning comes amid ongoing diplomatic discussions between US and Iranian officials in Switzerland over the implementation of a recently signed interim agreement aimed at reducing tensions and addressing wider regional security and nuclear concerns.
Trump’s comments were directed at Hezbollah, the Iran-backed armed group in Lebanon, which remains involved in clashes linked to instability in southern Lebanon.
The issue has become a key sticking point in efforts to sustain the fragile agreement reached earlier this month.
The latest threat follows previous statements by the US president suggesting that military action could resume if Iran fails to comply with the terms of the ongoing deal.
Last week, Trump warned that Washington would not hesitate to return to military operations if he was dissatisfied with Iran’s adherence to the agreement.
The development also comes shortly after Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced restrictions on movement through the Strait of Hormuz, raising fresh concerns over regional security and global shipping routes.
