Varsity student dies while playing football on campus

A 300-level Microbiology student at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka in Anambra State, Tochi Attah, has slumped and died while playing football on campus.

It was gathered that the student died while playing football near the Elmada Hostel premises on Monday, July 7, 2025.

Tochi, popularly known as ‘T-funds’, is a younger brother to the chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Igbo-Etiti LGA of Enugu State, Dr Simon Attah.

The President of Useh Youths, Sabastine Aku, in a statement issued on behalf of the Attah family and the Useh community, confirmed the incident.

Aku stated: “With heavy heart but total submission to God’s will, the Attah family and entire Useh Village sadly announce the passing of our son, brother and friend, Late Tochi Martins (a.k.a ‘T-Funds Exchange’), younger brother to Dr Simon Attah, the current Party chairman All Progressives Congress, Igbo-Etiti LGA of Enugu State.

“He departed suddenly while playing football. May God accept his soul and grant the family comfort during this difficult time.”

The Chief Safety Officer of UNIZIK, Ken Chukwurah, also confirmed the incident.

Chukwurah said: “The incident happened on Monday; the school is aware of it.

“We are still investigating to be sure of what happened and how it happened.”
