Veteran Juju musician St. Janet dies

The Nigerian entertainment industry is mourning the death of veteran Juju and Highlife musician, Iyun Janet Ajilore, popularly known as St. Janet.

Her death was announced on Sunday by publisher and socialite, Otunba Femi Davies, in a post on his Facebook page.

Davies said the singer died on Saturday after a brief illness.

“St Janet (Iyun Janet Ajilore), a popular Nigerian Juju and Highlife musician known for her vibrant live performances, energetic stage presence and socially unfiltered party tracks, is dead. She died after a brief illness on Saturday,” he wrote.

St. Janet was widely admired for her energetic stage performances and distinctive style, earning a loyal following among Juju music enthusiasts and lovers of Highlife music.

Throughout her career, she remained a popular performer at social gatherings and celebrations, entertaining audiences with her lively performances and party-themed songs.

Her contributions to the Juju and Highlife genres established her as one of the notable figures in Nigeria’s music industry.

Since news of her passing broke, tributes have continued to pour in from fans, colleagues and admirers, who have described her as a gifted entertainer whose music brought joy to many.
