The operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have foiled attempts by traffickers to smuggle consignments of cannabis and ecstasy tablets concealed in yams to Dubai, the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The NDLEA spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, revealed this via a statement issued on Sunday.
Babafemi disclosed that the suspects were arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos State, on Wednesday.
He stated that the freight agent, who presented the yams for export, Inegbu Ugochi Akunna, was promptly arrested while the consignor, Ahmodu Sulaimon, was also nabbed by the NDLEA operatives.

In his reaction to the arrest, the NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd), commended the officers of the anti-drug agency for their passion, commitment, and remarkable efforts to get results in their areas of responsibility.
Marwa, however, enjoined them and their compatriots across the country to stay focused and resilient in the pursuit of the NDLEA’s corporate goal.
