The Nasarawa State Volunteer Guards says it has within one year arrested over 100 kidnap suspects alongside other criminals and handed them over to the law enforcement agencies in the state.
The Commandant General of the Nasarawa Volunteer Guards, Sabiu Idris, made the disclosure while speaking to journalists in Lafia, the state capital on Saturday.
Idris stated that the security outfit has the manpower with over 200,000 staff to provide security in all public schools in the state.
The Guards desire to provide security in Nasarawa public schools was coming on the heels of the closure of all public and private schools in the state following an attack on Kuje Correctional Centre where terrorists and other criminals were released.

However, the Commandant General said: “What we required from the state government is logistics and monthly stipends for officers and men of the command to enable us carry out our function effectively.”
He, therefore, appealed to the state government to impress on the Local Government Area chairmen to also assist officers and men of the guards in their area through monthly stipends to ease their operations.
Idris, however, commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for donating a Hilux vehicle for their operation, while urging him to assist in refurbishing their only official vehicle which has been since grounded.
