Students in Zamfara State can now access their long-awaited WAEC and NECO results following the payment of outstanding debts by the current administration led by Governor Dauda Lawal.
A statement released on Saturday by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, confirmed that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) and the National Examinations Council (NECO) have released results previously withheld due to non-payment of examination fees.
The backlog of debts, dating as far back as 2014 for NECO and 2018 for WAEC, had been left unpaid by past administrations, preventing many students from accessing their results and hindering their educational progress.
Governor Lawal, who declared a state of emergency in the education sector in November 2023, has now fully settled these debts as part of his reform strategy.

The state government paid N1.4 billion owed to WAEC for exams conducted between 2018 and 2022. It was also revealed that Zamfara students did not participate in the 2023 WAEC due to non-payment, but the 2024 exam fees have now been covered.
For NECO, the governor cleared a debt of N320.7 million owed from 2020 to 2021. Additionally, he approved the payment of N1.022 billion owed from 2014 to 2018, securing an agreement with NECO to release the withheld results upon receiving the first installment.
The administration’s efforts are part of broader educational reforms, including the renovation of over 500 schools and ongoing teacher training programs.
These initiatives aim to reposition Zamfara’s education sector and improve learning outcomes across the state.
The resolution of the long-standing debt crisis has brought relief to thousands of students, enabling them to access their results and continue their academic and professional pursuits.
