Former Nigerian queen Zaynab Otiti-Obanor has publicly explained her reasons for marrying Senator George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
In a statement released through her media aide, David Adeoye, Ms. Otiti-Obanor described her marriage to Mr. Akume as a partnership built on maturity, shared purpose and mutual support.
According to her, the union reflects a meeting of two individuals committed to personal stability and public service, rather than a relationship driven by public spectacle.
She said their marriage underscores values such as humility, discipline, empathy and responsibility, and is grounded in a genuine commitment to serve people rather than chase public attention.
Ms. Otiti-Obanor and Mr. Akume appeared together for the first time publicly during the SGF’s 72nd birthday celebration in Gboko, Benue State.
In a video from the event, she promised to work toward improving the lives of residents in Benue as part of her new role within the community.
The former queen was previously married to Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, a union that ended in divorce in 2017.
After their separation, she reportedly lived in Qatar before returning to Nigeria and entering her new marriage with Mr. Akume
