Why Ashmusy freezes her eggs

Popular social media influencer Amarachi Amusi, widely known as Ashmusy, has sparked widespread reactions online after revealing that she has undergone egg freezing to safeguard her future fertility and sidestep societal pressure to marry.

The 30-year-old content creator shared the announcement in a detailed video on Friday, walking her followers through the medical stages of the procedure and explaining that her decision was driven by a determination to pursue motherhood on her own terms without being pushed into a wrong marriage by the ticking clock of age and social expectation.

Describing the procedure as one of the best choices she has made, Ashmusy clarified that egg freezing only preserves eggs retrieved from a specific cycle and does not prevent her from conceiving naturally in the meantime.

She said her broader aim was to educate women facing similar pressures about the option.

The disclosure, however, drew a pointed response from Nollywood actress Sarah Martins, who, while commending the decision to preserve fertility, issued a stern warning to women who might misread the procedure’s scope.

Martins cautioned that frozen eggs offer no protection against sexually transmitted infections, urging women to remain health-conscious and avoid reckless behaviour regardless of their reproductive choices.
