Why I left Chris Okafor, alleged ex-wife speaks

Agnes Bessem Okafor, who claims to be a former wife of Pastor Chris Okafor, has made a series of allegations about their past relationship, adding a new twist to the cleric’s ongoing controversy involving actress Doris Ogala.

In a statement shared widely online, Agnes said she married the pastor at the age of 18 in a ceremony she insists was formally conducted and witnessed by people who are still alive.

She added that the union produced four children, whom she described as legitimate.

Agnes accused Pastor Okafor of attempting to deny both the marriage and the children, saying such actions were unfair to the family and damaging to the image of the church.

She stated that she left the marriage by choice, claiming she could no longer cope with conduct she felt brought embarrassment to Christianity.

She further alleged that shortly after their wedding, she discovered a marriage certificate that suggested the pastor had previously been married — information she claims was hidden from her. According to Agnes, he denied the allegation when confronted.

Agnes also accused the cleric of deception and emotional mistreatment, saying she felt used and unappreciated, and criticised what she described as public apologies intended to gain sympathy rather than take responsibility.

She maintained that her decision to leave was driven by her desire to protect herself and her children.

Pastor Chris Okafor has yet to publicly respond to these latest claims at the time of reporting.
