Why K1 De Ultimate wants Awujale throne

The succession contest for the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland has intensified with Fuji icon and political heavyweight Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, K1 De Ultimate, formally entering the race.

K1, 67, confirmed his bid in a letter dated December 3, 2025, addressed to the Chairman of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House.

He said his declaration aligns with Ijebu customary law and the Ogun State Chieftaincy Laws.

“I hereby formally notify the Fusengbuwa Ruling House of my intention to be considered for the vacant stool of the Awujale of Ijebuland,” he wrote, stressing that his candidacy is grounded in tradition and the law.

K1 anchored his legitimacy on lineage, stating that he is a bona fide son of the Fusengbuwa Ruling House, tracing his ancestry to the Oba Jadiara line — the branch permitted by rotation to present candidates for the throne.

Beyond heritage, he highlighted more than five decades of service promoting Ijebu and Yoruba identity through music and cultural advocacy.

He noted that his career has helped project Ijebu heritage nationally and globally.

K1 also listed key honours that reflect his stature: Mayegun of Yorubaland (2020), Member of the Order of the Niger (2022), and Olori Omo-Oba/ Otunba Afidipotemole of Akile Ijebu (2023), bestowed by the late Awujale, Oba Sikiru Adetona.

His declaration followed a formal directive from the Ijebu-Ode Local Government instructing the Fusengbuwa Ruling House to submit its nominees within 14 days.

The council also announced the next phase of the succession rites, including the ceremonial movement of the Awujale’s Staff of Office.

The race had already attracted contenders such as Prince Olaseni Ottun of the Adeberu lineage and engineer-businessman Otunba Babatunde Alatise.

The Fusengbuwa Ruling House is now expected to complete its selection process in line with tradition and present its nominees within the stipulated deadline.
