‘Wicked man’: Akpabio’s sister-in-law accuses him of killings

Pat Akpabio, sister-in-law to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, has reignited controversy over a series of unresolved killings allegedly linked to Akwa Ibom State’s past administration.

The killings were said to have occurred in Akwa Ibom State when Akpabio was governor of the state.

In a Facebook video posted on October 11, Pat — a pastor and businesswoman married to the Senate President’s brother, Ibanga Akpabio — accused the former governor of complicity in several killings during and after his tenure.

“For all the people you people have killed when you were the governor and those you people have killed now that you are in the Senate, it will never be well with you,” she said in the video.

Pat, who has frequently criticised Akpabio online, accused him of betraying key Akwa Ibom politicians, including former minister Umana Okon Umana, former APC governorship candidates Nsima Ekere and Akan Udofia, and former YPP candidate Bassey Albert.

She vowed to challenge the Senate President in the 2027 senatorial election, alleging that he “forgets those who helped him rise politically.”

Akpabio: No senator can hold upper chamber hostage

She further urged President Bola Tinubu to be cautious in his dealings with Akpabio, calling him “a very wicked man,” and criticised the Senate President for neglecting his hometown of Ukana Ikot Ntuen, which she claimed had been without electricity for weeks.

Pat also alleged that Akpabio once accused her husband of murder and of absconding with his money following the 2019 elections.

Reacting to the allegations, Akpabio’s spokesperson, Eseme Eyiboh, dismissed the claims as baseless and politically motivated.

“If she is aware of any killing, she should report to the security agencies. Murder is a serious criminal matter, not something to use for political vendetta. Whoever asserts must prove,” he told Premium Times.

Eyiboh described the Senate President as “a humble and family-oriented man,” accusing Pat of seeking attention.

“The Senate President is very busy. I think she is just doing this to draw attention to herself,” he added.
