Wike: FCT projects on track despite 2027 politics

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday inspected several ongoing infrastructure projects across Abuja, expressing satisfaction with the pace of work and assuring residents that development efforts remain on course.

During the inspection tour, Wike stressed that governance and service delivery would take precedence over political activities as the 2027 general elections approach.

According to him, the FCT Administration remains focused on completing projects that directly impact residents’ lives, adding that contractors are being closely monitored to ensure timely delivery.

He said prompt payment and regular supervision were critical to keeping projects on schedule.

“I assure you, politics is not going to affect my work. The important thing is that we continue to serve the people and make the Renewed Hope Agenda real,” he said.

Among the projects inspected was the road linking Baze University, the Body of Benchers, Nile University and the Wupa Light Rail Station in the Idu area. Wike described the route as strategic to easing traffic and improving connectivity within the capital, noting that the contractor had pledged to deliver it by May.

The minister also visited the Body of Benchers extension building, which he said has reached about 80 per cent completion, with only finishing works such as landscaping remaining.

He further assessed a seven-kilometre road project connecting Airport Road to Tunga Madaki and nearby communities, describing it as a major intervention aimed at opening up previously underserved areas and improving access for residents.

Wike directed that steps be taken to extend the road link toward Zuba to enhance movement within the territory.

He maintained that infrastructure delivery would continue without interruption, emphasising that the administration’s focus remains on tangible improvements to residents’ daily lives rather than political distractions.
