Wike inspects FCT Magistrate Court projects, sets June deadline for completion

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has expressed satisfaction with the progress of ongoing Magistrate Court construction projects across the capital, assuring that the facilities will be completed and handed over by June 2026.

Wike gave the assurance on Thursday while inspecting three court project sites, describing the developments as key presidential interventions aimed at strengthening the judiciary’s capacity to deliver justice efficiently.

The inspection began in Asokoro, where the minister acknowledged the challenging terrain but commended contractors for pushing ahead despite the difficulties. He said the topography posed technical hurdles but remained confident the work would be completed on schedule.

From there, he proceeded to Jabi, where the foundation for a new Magistrates’ Court complex was laid in late 2025. The tour ended in Garki, where he praised the pace and quality of construction.

Beyond the courtrooms, the projects also include 40 residential housing units for judges serving in the FCT High Court, Court of Appeal, and Federal High Court.

According to Wike, the interventions—directed by President Bola Tinubu—are designed to provide adequate accommodation and modern facilities that will enhance the welfare and productivity of judicial officers.

He dismissed concerns that executive-backed infrastructure for the judiciary could undermine its independence, stressing that it is the government’s duty to support all arms of government with necessary resources.

Wike added that the judicial projects form part of broader development efforts in the FCT, which also cover road construction, school upgrades, and healthcare improvements. Major road links connecting the Airport Expressway to Kuje and Gwagwalada are similarly expected to be completed by June 2026.
