The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has fixed March 28 and 29, 2026, for its national convention in Abuja.
The decision was taken at the 105th meeting of the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC) held in Abuja on Monday, February 2, 2026.
According to a communique issued after the meeting, the NEC approved the dates for the convention, which is expected to produce members of the party’s National Working Committee and other statutory organs.
The committee also reaffirmed all resolutions reached at its emergency 104th NEC meeting held on December 7, 2025, stressing that the decisions remain binding and in line with the party’s constitution, the 1999 Constitution, the Electoral Act and relevant court judgments.
The Wike-backed faction further welcomed a judgement of the Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, which upheld the legality of the party’s leadership and administrative structure and directed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to recognise the Abdulrahman Muhammed-led National Caretaker Committee.
It restated that the Muhammed-led National Caretaker Committee, with Samuel Anyanwu as secretary, remains the only lawful national administrative organ of the party pending the conduct of the national convention.

As part of preparations for the national convention, the NEC approved a nationwide congress timetable, with ward and local government congresses slated for February, while state congresses will hold in March.
The PDP NEC also approved the extension of the tenure of the National Caretaker Working Committee, as well as state and zonal caretaker committees, pending the conduct of the national convention and the respective congresses.
The committee directed the National Caretaker Committee to immediately activate convention sub-committees and begin full logistical, administrative, and consultative preparations for what it described as a transparent and credible national convention.
The NEC urged party members across the country to remain united, disciplined and loyal to the PDP, while calling on stakeholders to place the collective interest of the party above personal considerations.
