Wike: Nigerians supporting Obi out of emotion, he’ll never be Nigeria’s president

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says the Labour Party (LP) presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, will never emerge Nigeria’s president.

Wike said many Nigerians are supporting Obi out of emotion, without fully knowing the former governor of Anambra State.

The minister said this during the thanksgiving service for the completion of projects executed by the Wike-led FCT Administration at the St. James Anglican Church in the Asokoro area of Abuja on Sunday, July 6, 2025.

Wike stated: “They say Peter Obi will be president, president where? Out of emotion, most of you are just following someone you don’t know.

“For eight years, Obi was a governor but he never conducted local government election. Now he is saying that democracy is not working but it worked in his time.

“Only Obi was governor and chairman of all the local governments in Anambra State at the same time. The time has passed, he won’t have the opportunity again.”

The former governor of Rivers State, however, lauded President Bola Tinubu for standing firm on his decision to work only with people that would support him and work with him to develop the FCT.

Wike added: “We are contributing our own quota and it is left for the people to judge our performance. We will continue to work hard to improve on what Mr President has promised FCT residents and Nigerians in general.

“Like the Vicar of the Church Ben Idume has said, everybody can attest to the changes Mr President has introduced in the FCT.”
