The Kaduna State High Court sitting in Kaduna, on Tuesday, January 16, sentenced a 38-year-old woman, Helen Ejiofor, to two years imprisonment over a N2.1 million job scam.
The counsel for the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Precious Onyeneho, told the court that the woman committed the crime in September 2023.
Onyeneho said the defendant cajoled the complainant, James Adams, to pay the said money into her account under the pretence of securing jobs for his two brothers.
The lawyer said as soon as Ejiofor received the money, she started avoiding calls from the complainant who waited for the non-existent employment letters.

Onyeneho added that all efforts made by the complainant to retrieve his money from the woman proved abortive.
Onyeneho said the offence contravened Section 322 of the Penal Code of Kaduna State, 2017.
The presiding judge, Justice Darius Khobo, therefore, sentenced Ejiofor to two years imprisonment with a fine option of N100,000.
Justice Khobo also ordered the woman to pay back the N2.1 million to Adams.
The judge said in the event that the convict failed to pay, she would serve an additional one year imprisonment.
