Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has spoken about the alleged attack on his convoy in Lokoja, the state capital, saying it was not an assassination attempt as widely reported.
The Kogi State Commissioner for Information and Communications, Kingsley Fanwo, while disclosing the incident via a statement had said Bello was attacked while travelling to Abuja for an official engagement.
Fanwo described the incident which he said occurred at about 4 p.m. on Sunday as an assassination attempt on the governor, saying Bello was attacked a few kilometres away from Abuja.
However, Bello, in an interview with journalists at his residence in Abuja on Sunday night, said the incident was a minor disagreement between the security details attached to him and some military personnel providing security on the road.
The governor stated that there was no assassination attempt on his life.

He clarified that while there was a minor fracas between the officers of the Nigerian Police Force attached to his convoy and those of a military unit manning the highways, it was in the course of both units performing their lawful security duties.
Governor Bello, who commended the security agencies for their joint contributions to the improved security of lives and property in Kogi State, however, called on the high command of the agencies involved to investigate “overzealousness or unprofessional conduct” by any of their officers involved in the incident and apply the necessary sanctions.
Bello also called on the people of Kogi State to ignore any attempt by politicians to use the incident to unsettle the polity ahead of the November 11 governorship elections in the state.
He assured the state of both his safety and the adequacy of security arrangements to ensure that the elections are peaceful, free, and fair.
