Tragedy struck in Golantabal village, Song Local Government Area of Adamawa State, as 13-year-old twin sisters, Hassana and Hussaina Garabiya, drowned while swimming in a pond on Saturday.

A source from the Adamawa State Police Command confirmed the incident to Zagazola Makama on Sunday.

The girls had reportedly gone to the farm earlier in the day and decided to swim in a nearby pond on their way home around 2:30 p.m.

A distress call was made around 3:50 p.m., prompting a swift response from the police.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and his team, working with local divers, recovered the bodies of the girls from the pond.

Their remains were later taken to the Cottage Hospital in Song and deposited at the morgue for autopsy.

The police extended their condolences to the bereaved family and cautioned parents and guardians to warn their children against swimming in open water bodies, particularly during the rainy season.
