7 dead, 11 injured in Niger truck crash

At least seven people lost their lives and 11 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a tragic truck accident that occurred in the early hours of Sunday, May 18, 2025 at Essa Community, along the Agaie-Badeggi Road in Katcha Local Government Area of Niger State.

The truck, which was transporting grains for the federal government, was carrying about 36 male passengers en route from Lagos to Kano State.

According to eyewitnesses, the accident happened at about 3 a.m. when the driver attempted to navigate through a bad stretch of the road currently under construction.

The Director-General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Abdullahi Baba Arah, confirmed the incident and stated that search and rescue efforts were still ongoing.
