Aliyu urges Christians to pray for end to insecurity

Sokoto State Governor, Ahmed Aliyu, has called on Christians in the state to use the Christmas celebrations to pray for lasting peace and an end to insecurity across Nigeria.

Aliyu made the appeal in his Christmas message, describing insecurity as a major national challenge that must be addressed for the country to achieve meaningful development.

He explained that although Sokoto is known for peace, the state has also faced security concerns, especially banditry in parts of the eastern axis.

According to the governor, his administration has taken several steps to support security agencies and strengthen community protection.

Aliyu said the state government has provided more than 170 patrol vehicles and numerous motorcycles to conventional security outfits, and established the Sokoto State Community Guard Corps, equipped with 40 Hilux vans and 700 motorcycles.

He added that the government also ensured the full operationalization of the Nigerian Air Force Base in Sokoto and constructed a military base in Illela Local Government Area.

The governor further stated that monthly allowances for security personnel posted to high-risk areas have been reviewed upward to boost morale.

Beyond security, Aliyu emphasized peaceful coexistence among all ethnic and religious groups, saying development can only thrive in an atmosphere of peace.

He commended the cordial relations between residents and host communities and urged Christians to continue contributing to the growth of the state.

He noted that Sokoto remains “a home for all,” pointing to policies such as free education for all students and developmental projects executed in communities like Sahara and J-Allen.

Aliyu also appealed for continued support for his administration’s programmes and wished the Christian community a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
