The All Progressives Congress has criticised former presidential candidate Peter Obi following his resignation from the African Democratic Congress.
In a statement posted on X on Sunday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, described Obi as a “political rolling stone,” accusing him of moving across political parties in search of an uncontested presidential ticket.
Morka alleged that the former Anambra State governor prefers a path to power that avoids internal party competition, claiming he seeks a “free” ticket rather than engaging in party-building efforts.
He further portrayed Obi as a “political drifter,” citing his movement across parties, including the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party Nigeria, and most recently the ADC.
Obi had earlier announced his departure from the ADC, attributing the decision to internal crises and what he described as a toxic political climate within the party.
In a statement issued on Sunday, Obi said his resignation followed careful reflection on persistent internal disputes and divisions that, according to him, have distracted the party from addressing critical national issues.
He clarified that his decision was not driven by personal disagreements with key figures such as former Senate President David Mark or former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, both of whom he said he continues to hold in high regard.
The former governor also dismissed suggestions of political desperation, stating that his focus remains on improving the welfare of Nigerians and promoting effective governance.
Despite leaving the party, Obi reiterated his belief in the possibility of competent and compassionate leadership, expressing optimism that Nigeria can achieve better governance.
