APC wins Ghari/Tsanyawa by-election election in Kano

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has defeated the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in the Ghari/Tsanyawa supplementary election held in Kano State.

Declaring the results on Sunday, the Returning Officer, Prof. Muhammad Waziri of Bayero University, announced APC’s Garba Gwarmai winner with 31,472 votes, ahead of NNPP’s Yusuf Maigado who scored 27,931 votes.

Prof. Waziri explained that the rerun followed the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) decision to declare the initial poll inconclusive, with the supplementary election covering affected polling units where voting was cancelled or not held.

“With a margin of 3,541 votes, Garba Gwarmai of the APC is hereby returned elected,” Waziri said.

While APC supporters celebrated the victory as proof of the party’s strength in Kano, some NNPP members expressed dissatisfaction and hinted at reviewing the outcome before taking further steps.

INEC described the exercise as peaceful, noting that security agencies ensured orderliness throughout the process.

The Ghari/Tsanyawa rerun was among several supplementary elections conducted across the country to conclude polls earlier declared inconclusive.
