Tinubu fulfils Birnin Gwari road promise — Uba Sani

Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, has commended President Bola Tinubu for fulfilling his campaign promise to reconstruct the Kaduna–Birnin Gwari Road, describing the project as a major milestone for security and economic development in the state.

Speaking on Tuesday at the groundbreaking ceremony for the 122-kilometre road project, the governor, who represented President Tinubu, recalled that the President, as the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate in 2022, visited Birnin Gwari despite security concerns and pledged to rebuild the road and restore peace to the area.

According to Sani, Birnin Gwari was then one of the country’s worst-hit communities by banditry and kidnapping, but Tinubu insisted on visiting the town during the campaign.

He said the journey from Kaduna to Birnin Gwari took over four hours because of the poor condition of the road, noting that the President assured residents that the highway would be reconstructed if elected.

“Today, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has fulfilled the two promises he made to the people of Birnin Gwari. We are here today to flag off this very important road project,” the governor said.

Sani described the road as a strategic transport corridor linking the North-West to the South-West through five states, disclosing that the Federal Government had approved ₦178 billion for its construction.

He also praised the Minister of Works, David Umahi, for supporting the project and ensuring its approval.

The governor said the security situation in Birnin Gwari had improved significantly, allowing residents to travel between Kaduna and the local government without police escorts.

He added that the community had not benefited from any major federal road project in over two decades until the current administration.

According to him, the Kaduna State Government is also constructing 36 kilometres of asphalt roads connecting 72 farming communities within Birnin Gwari Local Government Area.

Sani further highlighted other federal projects in the state, including the approval of an $865 million Kaduna Light Rail project and ongoing work on the Western Bypass, while expressing optimism that construction of the Eastern Bypass would soon resume.

“We are grateful to Mr President for these interventions and will continue to support his administration,” he said.

In his remarks, Minister of Works David Umahi described President Tinubu as a leader who fulfils his promises and commended Governor Sani for promoting unity and delivering infrastructure across Kaduna State.

Umahi also praised the governor’s developmental strides, saying his leadership had transformed the state through strategic investments in infrastructure and public welfare.
