Army sanctions soldier over ‘misleading’ poor feeding claim

The Nigerian Army has sanctioned a soldier serving under Operation Hadin Kai over what it described as misleading claims about poor feeding of troops in the North-East.

The Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North-East, Sanni Uba, said the action followed an internal investigation into a viral social media post.

According to him, findings revealed that the image shared by the soldier did not accurately represent the full ration issued at the time.

“The Theatre Command has noted with concern recent social media publications alleging poor feeding of troops. A detailed internal review shows that the images and narratives being circulated are misleading and do not reflect actual welfare standards,” the statement said.

Uba maintained that troops operating in the North-East are fed according to approved standards, noting that provisions are sometimes enhanced during festive periods such as Sallah and Easter to boost morale.

He explained that the feeding system is supervised through structured internal mechanisms, including Food Committees made up of personnel across ranks and led by senior non-commissioned officers to ensure transparency and oversight.

The Army spokesperson added that the investigation uncovered deliberate misrepresentation by the personnel involved.

“Investigations confirmed that the image did not represent the complete ration issued. Appropriate disciplinary measures have been applied in line with the Armed Forces Act,” he said.

He reaffirmed that troop welfare remains a priority despite the logistical and environmental challenges of operations in the region, urging personnel to channel grievances through official internal mechanisms rather than social media.

Uba also cautioned against the spread of unverified information, warning that misinformation could undermine military operations and national security efforts.
