Benue State Deputy Governor, Mr. Sam Ode, has dismissed speculation circulating on social media that he may be replaced ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Ode, who represented Governor Hyacinth Alia at the funeral of Mrs. Elizabeth Apochi in Owukpa, Ogbadibo Local Government Area, on Friday, described the claims as false and misleading.
He clarified that there was no plan by Governor Alia to replace him with Ojotu Ojema or anyone else, stressing that his relationship with the governor remained cordial and focused on service delivery.
“The rumour is baseless and should be ignored.
“It is only intended to confuse the people of Benue South Senatorial District and destabilise the political space,” he said.
While noting that Ojema would be welcomed if he chose to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), Ode emphasised that the party already commands strong support in Benue South and Ojema’s inclusion would further strengthen its base.
He cautioned politicians and social media users against dragging Idoma’s paramount ruler, Dr. Elaigwu Odogbo John, into political controversies, stressing the need to respect traditional institutions.
Ode further urged stakeholders to remain focused on the Alia administration’s development agenda rather than be distracted by divisive rumours.
He also called on residents, particularly in Ogbadibo, to participate in the ongoing INEC Continuous Voter Registration exercise to secure their voting rights ahead of future elections.
His remarks were aimed at quelling speculation of political realignments in the state as the 2027 polls approach.
