The Vice-Chancellor of the Benue State University in Makurdi, Prof. Tor Lorapuu, is set to unveil scholarships for female students who are ready to pursue their studies in Science, Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).

Lorapuu made this known at the 2023 International Women’s Day Conference organised by the Advance Management Academy (AMA) in Abuja on Wednesday, May 3.

The VC, who was represented by the Team Leader, Conference and Public Lecture Committee, Benue State University, Dr John Tor Tsuwa, promised to host AMA at the event which is geared to spark the desire and ambition of the girl child to take a study path that will get them ready for career in the industrial sector, in addition to encouraging the education of rural girls in the country.

The university don also decried the percentage of elected women in the 2023 Nigeria General elections, saying there is need to mainstream the female gender in governance at all levels in other to galvanise for an all-inclusive national development.

The Vice-Chancellor said despite the exploits of women in the private sector, they still remain very much underrepresented when it comes to elective positions.

Also speaking at the event, the Managing Director of AMA, Peter Oyeneye, said the women were carefully selected, adding that they are not only professionals in their field of endeavour but also have contributed tremendously in the larger society around them

23 female professionals, including the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) Chairpersons for Edo, Adesuwa Ehimuan, and Delta Sonia Unobunjo, were given the prestigious AMA award.
