Boko Haram ambush vigilantes in Borno

Suspected fighters of Boko Haram ambushed a patrol team of vigilantes along the Warave–Gwoza Road in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State, leaving one member dead.

Security sources said the attack happened around 7:30 a.m. on Tuesday when the gunmen opened fire on members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and local hunters carrying out routine patrol in the area.

A CJTF member in Warave, Bello Adamu, 50, sustained critical injuries during the ambush. He was rushed to the General Hospital in Gwoza, where medical personnel confirmed him dead on arrival. His body was later handed over to his family for burial in line with Islamic rites.

Following the incident, troops of Operation HADIN KAI were deployed to the scene, while security patrols and surveillance along the axis have been stepped up to forestall further attacks.
