Court convicts woman for collecting transport fare without visit

A magistrate court has reportedly convicted a lady identified as Jennifer for allegedly collecting transport fare from a man, Emmanuel, without fulfilling her promise to visit him.

According to reports circulating on social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Emmanuel gave Jennifer money for transportation with the agreement that she would come to his house. However, she allegedly failed to show up and spent the money.

Feeling defrauded, Emmanuel filed a complaint, which eventually led to the court’s judgment. The court ruled that Jennifer must either pay a fine of ₦450,000 or serve seven years in prison.

A video shared online showed Jennifer standing in the courtroom as the verdict was delivered.

The ruling sparked widespread reactions on social media, with many users describing it as unusual and debating its implications.
