Court sentences man to life imprisonment for defiling minor

The Domestic Violence and Sexual Offences Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos State, has sentenced one Blessing Okon to life imprisonment for defiling a 14-year-old girl, right from eight year, in the Ikoyi area of the state.

Justice Abiola Soladoye sentenced Okon to life imprisonment without an option of fine on Monday.

The presiding judge said the prosecution proved to the court beyond reasonable doubt the charge of defilement preferred against the defendant, adding that the statement and oral testimony of the plaintiff were consistent.

Justice Soladoye said: “The defendant is lacking compassion for having sex with a 14-year-old girl. Therefore he should pay for his sexual crime.

“He is shameless and has been having sex with the plaintiff since she was 8.

“The defendant is guilty of Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015 and he is hereby sentenced to life imprisonment without an option of fine.

“He is to have his name registered in the Sex Offenders Register as maintained by the Lagos State Government,” the judge said.

Justice Soladoye further commended the chaplain of the school for reporting the incident to the appropriate authority.
