Niger State Governor, Alhaji Mohammed Umaru Bago, has confirmed the arrest of Abubakar Abba, leader of the notorious Mahmuda terrorist group operating in Borgu Local Government Area of Niger State and parts of Kwara State.
The governor disclosed that Abba was captured alive by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Wawa town during an intelligence-led operation that was executed without a single shot fired.
“Yes, it is true. I can confirm that the leader of Mahmuda, one of the most dangerous terror groups in West Africa, Abubakar Abba, has been arrested by the DSS,” Bago’s Chief Press Secretary, Bologi Ibrahim, posted on Facebook, quoting the governor.
Describing the arrest as a “huge victory” for both the state and the nation, Bago praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his commitment to ending insecurity in Nigeria.
“This is proof of the President’s dedication to the safety and well-being of Nigerians,” Ibrahim stated, adding that the success reflects the competence and intelligence of the country’s security services.
Bago assured that the Niger State government will continue working closely with the federal government and security agencies to stamp out terrorism across the country.
