A fresh barrage of missiles from Iran triggered multiple explosions across Tel Aviv on Friday, as firefighters battled a blaze at a residential building near the city’s commercial district.
The attacks followed Israel’s expansion of its campaign against Hezbollah, vowing retaliation against the Tehran-backed militant group after the killing of Iran’s supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, on Saturday.
Iran’s state broadcaster reported that missiles were fired “against targets in the heart of Tel Aviv,” while Israel’s military said it was working to intercept incoming Iranian projectiles late Thursday.
AFP journalists in Tel Aviv reported hearing two near-simultaneous waves of explosions echoing across the city. Rocket trails were also seen over Netanya, a coastal city north of Tel Aviv.
Following the attacks, Israel’s emergency service, Magen David Adom (MDA), said its teams visited several impact sites but confirmed no casualties.
Israeli police noted they were “handling scenes involving fallen projectiles in central Israel,” adding that there was damage but no injuries.
A rocket struck a building on the outskirts of Tel Aviv, prompting evacuations, while firefighters worked to extinguish a blaze at another residential site caused by intercepted Iranian fire.
Earlier on Friday, Israel’s Home Front Command issued multiple rocket warnings for communities near the Lebanon border.
