FCT workers to resume duty as NLC, TUC suspend planned protest after meeting with Wike

Workers under the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) in the Federal Capital Territory have been directed to resume work immediately following a conciliatory meeting between organised labour and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

The directive was contained in a joint statement issued by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

The unions stated that the meeting was convened at the instance of the Chairman of the Senate Committee on the FCT, Senator Mohammed Bomoi, and held between representatives of organised labour and Wike.

The meeting, which commenced at 11:45 p.m. and ended at 3:51 a.m., was described as extensive and frank.

The NLC and TUC said all complaints presented by members of the Joint Union Action Committee were taken one after the other and fully addressed during the discussions.

They also disclosed that Wike assured organised labour of mutual respect and sustained engagement going forward.

Court bars NLC, TUC from planned FCT protest

The unions further agreed that no worker would be victimised as a result of the industrial action, while all outstanding cases at the National Industrial Court would be withdrawn immediately.

The unions stated: “All outstanding cases at the National Industrial Court (NIC) shall be withdrawn immediately.

“Consequently, all JUAC members and all affiliates of the TUC and NLC working in the Ministry of the FCT (MFCT) are hereby directed to resume work immediately.

“All affiliates are enjoined to comply strictly with this directive in the interest of industrial peace and harmony in good faith.”
