A fire outbreak on Thursday engulfed a multi-storey building housing a branch of Polaris Bank on Broad Street, Lagos Island, Lagos State.
Videos circulating on social media showed thick plumes of smoke billowing from the building as residents and business owners gathered around the area.
Emergency responders, including firefighters, were deployed to the scene and were seen battling the blaze to prevent it from spreading to nearby buildings.
As of the time of filing this report, there was no immediate information on casualties, while the cause of the fire remained unknown.
Efforts to obtain official details from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) were unsuccessful.
When contacted, LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said he was attending to an emergency and requested that enquiries be sent via text message.
He had yet to respond as of the time this report was filed.
