FUOYE suspends two students over cyberbullying of ex-SUG president

The management of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti has suspended two students over allegations of cyberbullying the institution’s suspended Students’ Union Government (SUG) president, James Iyanuoluwa Adio.

The university announced the suspension in a statement published on its official news portal on Friday and signed by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) and Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tajudeen Opoola.

The affected students, identified as Alao Iyanuoluwa Odunayo and Olawale Abiodun Samuel, were accused of conspiring to publish Adio’s private affairs online after he allegedly failed to meet their financial demands.

According to the management, the actions of the students constitute conduct capable of damaging the institution’s reputation. The university said investigations into the matter are ongoing but directed the duo to proceed on immediate suspension pending the outcome of the probe.

The institution reiterated its commitment to maintaining discipline and eliminating behaviours that could tarnish its image.

Adio was suspended by the university last week alongside a Deputy Director of Student Affairs over allegations of extortion. He was accused of indirect involvement in the illegal collection of ₦1,000 from first-year students for practical sessions, with about ₦700,000 reportedly traced to his personal account.

Following his suspension, a private video allegedly involving the former SUG president circulated widely on social media, attracting public attention and prompting the intervention of the National Association of Nigerian Students.
