Gombe generates N17.55bn IGR in six months

Gombe State generated N17.55 billion in Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) between January and June 2026, achieving 89.9 per cent of its N19.53 billion half-year target.

Figures from the Gombe State Internal Revenue Service (GIRS) showed that the state collected N9.48 billion in the first quarter, representing 97.14 per cent of the N9.76 billion target for the period.

Revenue collection fell to N8.07 billion in the second quarter, amounting to 82.66 per cent of the N9.76 billion target.

The combined figure stood at N17,553,849,743.91 at the end of June.

The latest performance comes after the state recorded a significant increase in IGR in 2025, when it generated more than N40.7 billion, compared with N20.72 billion in 2024 and N6.8 billion in 2019.

The GIRS Chairperson, Aisha Adamu, attributed the growth to reforms aimed at improving revenue collection, expanding the tax base and increasing taxpayer compliance.

Adamu said the first-half performance demonstrated improved revenue administration and growing compliance among taxpayers in the state.

She said the reforms were also focused on creating a transparent and sustainable revenue system capable of supporting the state’s development programmes.

Gombe has set an IGR target of N39.05 billion for 2026, up from about N25.7 billion projected in 2025.

With N17.55 billion already generated in the first six months, the state has achieved about 45 per cent of its annual target.

Adamu assured taxpayers that the revenue service would continue to improve its collection systems, strengthen compliance and widen the state’s revenue base.

She also called for greater cooperation from residents and businesses, stressing that internally generated revenue was important to funding infrastructure, healthcare, education, agriculture and other public services.

The revenue service said the state’s sustained increase in domestic revenue reflected the impact of ongoing fiscal and administrative reforms.
