Governor to PDP lawmakers: I’ll deliver for APC, prepare your exit in 2027

Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi has called on opposition lawmakers, particularly those from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to brace for defeat in the 2027 general election.

The governor urged the lawmakers to prepare to vacate their seats in the National Assembly.

Speaking at a Citizens Engagement Programme titled, “Gwamnati da Jama’a” in Dutse Local Government Area on Sunday, May 18, 2025, Governor Namadi expressed strong optimism that the All Progressives Congress (APC) would reclaim all political positions currently held by opposition parties in the state.

The event also saw a significant political shift, with over 3,500 members of the PDP and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) defecting to the APC.

Namadi said: “The days are numbered for opposition lawmakers in the red and green chambers.

“Come 2027, the people will vote overwhelmingly for the APC. They have seen our commitment to development and will reject the opposition.”

The governor highlighted the APC’s growing influence, particularly in the southwestern zone of the state, attributing it to his administration’s focus on both human and infrastructural development.

“Our increasing popularity in the Jigawa Southwestern zone is a direct result of our efforts to improve lives and build lasting infrastructure,” he said.

Namadi cited the wave of defections from key local government areas like Birnin Kudu, Buji, and Dutse as evidence of the party’s rising dominance and public trust.

Recall that during the 2023 general election, the PDP secured major wins in Jigawa State, including the South-West senatorial seat and House of Representatives positions for Birnin Kudu/Buji and Dutse/Kiyawa constituencies, as well as a state assembly seat in Birnin Kudu.

Governor Namadi reiterated his administration’s commitment to delivering good governance under the APC and encouraged new members to remain steadfast and loyal to the party.
