Gunmen abduct Adelabu’s sister, children in Ibadan

Gunmen have abducted the sister of the former Minister of Power and All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirant in Oyo State, Bayo Adelabu, in Ibadan, the state capital.

It was gathered that the victims were kidnapped in the Challenge area of Ibadan, Ibadan South-West Local Government Area of Oyo State on Wednesday, June 3, 2026.

Confirming the incident, one of Adelabu’s media aides, Femi Awogboro, said the victims – identified as Laide, the sister of the former minister, and her twin children, Peter and Paul – were abducted by gunmen while travelling out of their residence.

Awogboro said the family members were heading from the Elewura area of Challenge to connect to the expressway when they were ambushed and taken away by the gunmen.

“The family members were going out this morning from Elewura to link the express when they were attacked and whisked away by the kidnappers,” he added.

The incident has heightened concerns over insecurity in Oyo State, coming weeks after more than 40 teachers and students were abducted during an attack on Ahoro-Esiele in Oriire Local Government Area.

Also confirming the incident, the Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Alayande, said an investigation into the abduction had commenced.

Ayanlade assured members of the public that all necessary resources have been deployed to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and the apprehension of those responsible for this criminal act.

The police spokesman said: “Following the report of the incident, the Commissioner of Police, immediately directed the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), Challenge Division, alongside other tactical teams, to proceed to the scene where the victim’s vehicle was recovered and to commence intensive investigations.

“Investigations are ongoing to unravel the circumstances surrounding the incident and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“The command urges residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and cooperative with the police by providing any useful information that may assist ongoing investigations.”
