The deputy governor of Oyo State, Rauf Olaniyan, has sued the state House of Assembly over the impeachment move against him by the lawmakers.
The deputy governor was represented in court on Tuesday by his lawyer, Afolabi Fashanu, SAN, before Justice Ladiran Akintola at Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan, the state capital.
Justice Akintola, however, adjourned hearing till Wednesday (today) and ordered that the Speaker of the House of Assembly, Adebo Ogundoyin, and the Clerk be put on notice.
The Star recalls that the deputy governor recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The House of Assembly, few days after the defection sent Impeachment notice to the deputy governor and gave him a week to respond to the allegations contained in the impeachment notice.
The lawmakers levelled five allegations against the deputy governor.

In the petition entitled, ‘Petition and Notice of Allegations against the Deputy Governor of Oyo State, His Excellency, Engr. Rauf Olaniyan’, Olaniyan was accused of gross misconduct, abuse of office, financial recklessness, abandonment of office and official duties and insubordination.
“This is in accordance with Section 188 of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as amended),” the petition read in part.
Olaniyan, however, replied the lawmakers within four days, through his lawyers.
