Governor Uba Sani has described Kaduna Polytechnic as a key centre of technical education, innovation and entrepreneurship, noting its role in producing graduates who have contributed to national development.

The governor made the remarks on Saturday at the institution’s 70th anniversary and combined convocation ceremony held at its Tudun Wada main campus.

An alumnus of the polytechnic, Sani was also conferred with a Fellowship Award, which he said reflects not just personal recognition but the Kaduna State Government’s commitment to advancing education, empowering youths and strengthening institutions.

He stressed that technical and vocational education is critical to sustainable development, particularly in a rapidly evolving global economy driven by industrialisation, digital innovation and skills development.

“Polytechnics must occupy a central place in our development strategy. They are engines of productivity, enterprise and human capital formation,” he said.

The governor disclosed that his administration is currently sponsoring 775 students across various programmes at Kaduna Polytechnic, as part of efforts to reduce financial barriers and expand access to education.

He added that the state government has established three Institutes of Vocational Training and Skills Development in Rigachikun, Samaru Kataf and Soba, which he described as among the best-equipped skills centres in Nigeria, certified by the National Board for Technical Education.

According to him, the institutes offer specialised training in areas such as welding, solar technology, information technology and artificial intelligence, aimed at preparing young people for emerging global opportunities.

Sani also highlighted the ongoing modernisation of the Panteka Market, a major informal skills hub in Kaduna, noting that the project is expected to benefit over 38,000 apprentices by integrating modern tools, training and certification systems.

He further revealed plans to construct a new lecture theatre complex at the polytechnic and rehabilitate access roads within its campuses to improve learning conditions.

The governor called on the private sector, development partners and alumni to support the institution through funding, research collaborations and mentorship initiatives, stressing that the future of the country depends on the strength of its educational institutions.
