Kaduna to immortalise Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi with foundation — Gov. Uba Sani

Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has announced plans to establish a foundation in honour of the late Sheikh Dahiru Usman Bauchi, aimed at sustaining the legacy of inter-religious harmony, peaceful coexistence and moral leadership for which the revered Islamic scholar was widely known.

The governor made the pledge on Sunday during a condolence visit to the family of the Tijjaniyya leader, who passed away on November 27 at his residence in Bauchi. Uba Sani led a 30-member delegation to the visit.

According to the governor, the Kaduna State Government will set up a committee made up of members of the late cleric’s family, his students and other key stakeholders to work out the structure and objectives of the proposed foundation.

He said the initiative would not only preserve Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi’s legacy but also implement projects and ideals the cleric intended to pursue during his lifetime.

Although Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi hailed from Bauchi State, Governor Uba Sani said Kaduna would “immortalise him more than anyone else” in recognition of his immense contributions to Islam, good governance and peaceful coexistence.

He noted that the late cleric played an advisory role in his political journey and that his counsel always yielded positive results.

“We will continue his efforts at uniting Muslims and strengthening harmony among followers of different religions, not only in Kaduna State but across the country,” the governor said.

In his remarks, Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Mohammed Auwal Jatau, recalled that Governor Uba Sani was on an official trip to China when the cleric died, but still reached out to Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Mohammed, to express his condolences.

He also disclosed that the governor had earlier constituted a special committee in Kaduna to receive condolences on behalf of the late Sheikh.

Responding on behalf of the family, Khalifa Sayyid Ibrahim Dahiru Bauchi, son of the deceased, thanked Governor Uba Sani for his long-standing relationship with the late cleric and for the various gestures of support since his passing.

He also expressed appreciation for the governor’s promise to rebuild the residence where Sheikh Dahiru Bauchi grew up, speaking on behalf of the cleric’s 82 children.

The delegation included the Speaker of the Kaduna State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Yusuf Dahiru Liman; national and state leaders of Fityanul Islam of Nigeria; prominent Islamic scholars from across the country; and senior officials of the Kaduna State Government.
