Kano tops national voter registration with 59,203 new registrants

Kano State has taken the lead in Nigeria’s ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, recording a total of 59,203 completed registrations as of October 7, 2025, according to a progress report by the Kano Sub-Committee on Data Collection and Analysis.

The data, compiled from all 44 Local Government Areas (LGAs), reveals sharp contrasts between urban and rural participation rates, with city centers driving the state’s strong performance.

Nasarawa LGA topped the list with 2,442 new registrants, followed closely by Kumbotso (2,333) and Bichi (2,328) — areas noted for their high population density and easier access to registration facilities.

Mid-performing LGAs such as Dala (1,548), Gaya (1,542), Rimin Gado (1,570), and Ungogo (1,632) also showed steady progress, reflecting moderate engagement from semi-urban communities.

Meanwhile, rural areas like Ajingi, Bunkure, and Minjibir recorded between 1,000 and 1,200 registrations, aligning with the state’s average.

At the bottom of the table were Rogo (147), Doguwa (536), and Tarauni (549) — LGAs where analysts believe turnout and logistics challenges hindered participation.

Experts say the findings underscore a growing urban advantage in voter registration and call for targeted outreach and enhanced logistics to boost enrollment in rural and underserved areas.

The report positions Kano as a critical bellwether for national voter engagement trends ahead of the 2027 general elections.
